OK, seriously....what the hell is this whole, "the real Greenlee is coming back" to All My Children??!!!!! OK for those who are not familiar with the daytime drama, All My Children", Greenlee Smythe is a character on the show. Now a couple of year's ago the actress who originated the role, Rebecca Budig, left the show. The writers had the character leave, angry at everyone in her life....OK fine.....then the character returned last year, played by another actress, Sabine Singh. Originally I was not happy about that....anyone who watches daytime knows that we become attached to the actors who play these characters, they are almost one in the same to us. It is like having the part of your Grandma Smith now being played by your Aunt Bea. I resisted the new actress, as did most people I'm sure....but over time I have come to enjoy the actress and believe her in the role of Greenlee. They have become one in the same....as it is supposed to be. Well now for some reason the original actress, Rebecca Budig, has become available and the "powers that be" obviously want her back.
OK, I get that part.....I don't have to like it, but I get it. It has been done before, they brought back the original "Ashley" on Young and the Restless, they brought back the original "Billie" on Days of our Lives, and there are several others on the different shows. It is not the fact that they are bringing Rebecca Budig back....I enjoyed her portrayal of Greenlee, I never thought another actress could take on the role and do it justice. BUT, what I object to is the way that the PR machine is touting her return. Spot after spot they are trying to whip the audience into a frenzy, stating "The Real Greenlee is coming back!" Stay tuned and all of that! What a slap in the face to the actress who took on this role after Rebecca left. It is my understanding that Sabine Singh was not treated well by the PTB (Powers that be) regarding her firing. I doubt that she saw it coming. I for one certainly didn't. Truthfully, there are two actresses right now that are on the show that have taken over for "original" actresses in front burner storyline's and I can safely say that they are replacing the wrong one! I have not been able to warm up to the actress now playing the role of "Babe"....not her fault, but I just can't seem to see her in the role....the chemistry with others on the show just doesn't mess in my opinion....nor in other fans' opinion's as far as I can tell.
I don't know of anyone personally who is happy with this turn of events. It is one thing to replace the actress with the role's original actress, it is quite another to denigrate the hard work the replacement has had to do by basically calling her a "fake". Not the "real" Greenlee. That my friends is just not fair. There is no going back now, but my heart goes out to Sabine who in my opinion, and many others', she did a fabulous job and made that role her own. Kudos to you Ms. Singh and I hope that you find another job where the PTB appreciate all of your hard work, I for one have found you to be very "real".
